Burgundy Boater Band Most Frequently Asked Questions

How much space do you need?

Approximately 5 square metres or line up 4 chairs with a chair’s space between them. We have played to an audience of 6 in someone's front room!

 

How is it best to time things?

We normally play 45 minute sets with a 15 min break, but can play up to 1 hour and 15 mins with no break, for bookings over 3 hours we recon to play 40 minutes in the hour, with the breaks timed to suit the client.

 

Can I pick the bands playlist?

Yes, we have a repertoire of about three hundred tunes so if you pick them that will save us a job!

 

Where will you travel to?

We are based in Southampton and travel up to 100 miles or 2 hours from there.

 

Can I see you play live?

We have very few public engagements but have some video of our live performances available on our media page.

 

Will you learn our special song?

If you want a special tune please ask, although some tunes don’t fit with our line up and style of music.

 

Is the video on your website a true reflection of the band?

Yes it was taken at various gigs we’ve done.

 

How do I book you?

Can we use your sound system for speeches?

We don’t always have a PA, but if you ask we can bring ours it is suitable for up to approx. 100 people.

 

What equipment do you use?

Our acoustic instruments and a battery-powered PA.

 

Do you have lights?

No.

 

How long do you play for?

We usually play 2 hours with a 15 minute break but we can play for up to 6 hours at 40 minutes in the hour.

 

What time do you start and finish?

Whenever the client asks us to we don’t have fixed sets.

 

How long do you take to set up?

15 minutes.

 

Can I provisionally book you?

Only with a non refundable deposit we have to operate on a first come, first serve basis.

 

Can my sisters/bosses/daughters dog sing with your band?

Yes but only if the dog can bark in time with us.

 

What will the band wear?

Our usual uniform is matching striped jackets and boaters, or matching waistcoats or matching sweatshirts depending on the weather and formality of the occasion.

For colder outside events we have matching black anoraks with the classic "8 Point" American Police Cap.

We also have tailcoats for the formal "White tie & Tails" evening events - 20's style.

 

Does the band have PAT and PLI certificates?

We have PLI and does not need any PAT certificates as our PA is battery-powered.

 

How much does it cost to book the band?

What type/size venues are you able to play at?

Any up to about 200 people.

 

How loud will the band be?

People usually manage to talk over us.
